ABOUT

Why have I chosen to work with people ?

I believe that the function the nurse performs is primarily an independent one – that of acting for the patient when he lacks knowledge , physical strength, or the will to act for himself as he would ordinarily act in health, or in carrying out prescribed therapy. This function is seen as complex and creative, as offering unlimited opportunity for the application of the physical, biological, and social sciences and the development of skills based on them.

An effective nurse is caring, understanding, nonjudgmental and has a strong ability to empathize with patients from all walks of life. Registered nurses deal with the sick and injured and their families on a daily basis, and they need to be able to show them that they truly care about their situations. Being sympathetic about the patient’s hospital experience can go a long way towards improving patient care. Sometimes, an empathetic nurse is all patients have to look forward to. At the same time, nurses need to be able to control their own emotions. They constantly deal with stressful situations including emergencies, traumatic events and tragic illnesses. To be able to successfully carry out their duties, nurses must be able to remain calm and think clearly under these circumstances.

Solid communication skills are a basic foundation for anycareer. But for nurses, it’s one of the most important aspects of the job. They have to be able to communicate with doctors, patients and coworkers in a very fast-paced environment. They must also listen carefully to doctors’ orders and take perfect notes when needed. Good nurses are able to follow directions without a problem and easily communicate with patients and families. A truly stellar nurse advocates for their patients and anticipates their needs. Effective communication skills in nursing create a high level of patient satisfaction while preventing medical mishaps.

Good nurses know how to perform all of their responsibilities with the utmost accuracy and detail. They play a major role in assessing and treating patients’ medical conditions, and when dealing with the health of another human being, there is little room for error, so nurses must responsibly carry out their duties at all times. They have to be able to keep track of and record minor changes in a patient’s health or behavior, because neglecting to notice something could end up having serious consequences. Nurses also need to be responsible when it comes to their job demands and be flexible with their time. Since emergencies can occur at any time, and nurses are needed 365 days a year, they are often required to work overtime, nights, weekends and holidays. With the right personality, nursing can be an extremely rewarding career.

So my conclusion is that, human to human relationships are all essential to provider the professional care, and i have choose nursing as a profession because i desire back in the year 2010  to care for other individuals, from a professional point of view.

Jonas Martinussen.
